The Challenges for the Aviation Sector in a Post-pandemic World
Airports are vital for the economic development of cities, countries and regions. They directly contribute to economies by providing services to airlines, transporting both passengers and cargo. The movement of goods and people is also beneficial for governments, consumers and industries. Nevertheless, this sector was severely hit by the COVID-19 outbreak. Before the global pandemic, the airline industry had a positive growth projection. Now, however, the industry is suddenly faced with a new landscape where capacities are limited and passengers’ demand is decreased. As with any other major crisis, the pandemic and its economic impact have posed both challenges and opportunities. How are airlines and airports paving the way towards a post-COVID-19 recovery? Are they rethinking their strategies towards a more environmentally friendly and conscious future?
