This year, the Port of Barcelona will participate once again in the Barcelona New Economy Week (BNEW), reinforcing the commitment it made in the first edition of this event. Our presence in the second edition of BNEW as BAir Sponsor is fully justified when considering the slogan of this hybrid event, online and face-to-face: “Connect, promote, transform”.
It is, without a doubt, a slogan tailor-made for the Port of Barcelona, which is the main logistics platform in Catalonia and the hub that connects the country with the rest of the world through a hundred regular maritime lines that connect with more than 1,000 ports in 173 countries, transporting both goods and passengers; an engine that drives the well-being of citizens thanks to a Port Community made up of some 500 companies that generate more than 250,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs; a logistics cluster that works to transform the sector through innovation and decarbonization.
“Connect, promote, transform” is, in short, what more than 37,000 professionals who work daily at the Port of Barcelona dedicate their efforts to, a logistics infrastructure that has implemented an evolving smart model, which uses artificial intelligence (AI), digitization, big data, internet of things (IoT) or blockchain to be a more efficient, sustainable and capable infrastructure to provide an ongoing service. An evolution that entails, in turn, an economic, environmental, social and governance transformation.
This transformation would not be possible without the involvement of the entire Port Community. The sum of the efforts of thousands of professionals committed to their work and essential tools, available thanks to the advanced digitization of the Port of Barcelona processes, allow us to comply with all the needs of the logistics chain, as we will prove during BNEW, where we will be present in many of the debates that are generated on the different areas that will be the focus of attention: logistics, real estate, digital industry, e-commerce, economic zones, mobility, sustainability, talent, science and the city. They are all areas that concern us as a logistics hub that has set a highly diversified strategy for reaching the year 2040 with multiple uses: a clean fuel hub; a circular economy platform; a continental intermodal center; a technology district of the blue economy and a hub for innovation and training, as well as being fully integrated with the host city.
Damià Calvet, president of Port de Barcelona.
