Smart Manufacturing Needs 5G. The Question is When and How It Will Be a Reality
5G networks make the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), digital twins, and real-time telemetry to be possible. 5G is a systemic change that means being able to share large amounts of information between machines, people, sensors and mobile entities: It seems that industries will embrace 5G, the question is when. Imagining 5G deployed in the industry has enabled some models of private networks to be proposed in order to solve the industry’s reliability and security requirements. In this matter, the spectrum and its regulation are fundamental. However, for the industry to adopt 5G, it will also be necessary to break down barriers between different industries (telephone operators, machinery manufacturers, logistics operators, etc.) to prove the industrial 5G potential.
